Internet Explorer 9 preview
Posted: August 21st, 2010 by Craig Kruger
With the increasing popularity of rival browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has been losing market share in recent years.
The stable Firefox and the speedy Google Chrome have been putting pressure on Internet Explorer to create a better version of their browser that will not only give the user a speedy browsing experience but also better support for common web standards; something which has been lacking in previous versions of Internet Explorer.
Although Internet Explorer 9 is still in development, we do know is that HTML 5 and a strong support for CSS3 will be included in this version. It will also include the new Chakra javascript engine with hardware-accelerated graphics which should increase the speed dramatically. In a benchmark test Internet Explorer 9 was apparently found to be faster than Google Chrome when it came to hardware-accelerated canvas rendering.
The Beta release of Internet Explorer 9 is expected mid September; the preview release was made available this week. I for one am excited to see what Microsoft have done to enhance their browser amid the ever increasing pressure from the competition.
